Player Profile
The journeyman defender finished the season in his homeland with Maribor after a short-lived and unsuccessful stint in England with Championship club Barnsley. Filekovic joined the Yorkshire side on a short-term contract in September following a trial, but he left by mutual consent a month later after failing to break into the first team. His first game of the season was not until late February in the Slovenian Premier Division.
Filekovic returned from a 22-month international exile to play twice in qualifying, starting the double header against the Czech Republic and Northern Ireland in spring of last year. Both appearances were in central defence but he also offers cover at left-back.
He is now in his third spell at Maribor, having first played there under national coach Matjaz Kek. He has also played in Croatia, Greece, Belgium and Russia.
