Handanovic conceded a goal a minute into his international debut aged 30, as a substitute against Bosnia-Herzegovina. His next two caps were in the World Cup qualifying double header against the Czech Republic (D 0-0) and away to Northern Ireland (L 0-1), deputising for his injured younger cousin, Samir.
Like his cousin Samir, Jasmin plays his club football in Italy, albeit it in the lower leagues with Mantova. He joined the north Italian club in 2007 and was their first-choice goalkeeper between January and April this year as Mantova were relegated to the Third Division.
He came close to quitting football and working as a barman after only playing in nine league games in as many years at NK Olimpija. He joined Slovenian rivals Koper in 2005, and in two seasons he missed just 10 matches and won the domestic cup.
