Player profile
The attacking midfielder was once the most coveted player in Slovenia but his career has stalled in recent years. His 2009/10 season started badly when his club, Vitesse Arnhem, fined him for walking out following his half-time substitution against Den Haag, but he showed sufficient glimpses of his early promise to play in Slovenia’s last four World Cup qualifers.
He marked his only start with his first international goal in the 3-0 win against San Marino. Stevanovic joined Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem in January 2009 following a short-lived spell in Israel with Maccabi Petah Tikvah. He made just 10 appearances in the Israeli league before leaving when the club failed to pay his wages.
Stevanovic came to the fore as a youngster with his good touch and eye for goal at Domzale in Slovenia. He left for Real Sociedad in January 2006 but suffered relegation the following year after making only eight league starts in 18 months. A loan spell with Second Division Alaves in 2007/08 brought only more frustration.
