Ilic provides back-up at right back and in central defence. In March he made Lokomotiv Moscow his third club in six months – but he has barely got a look-in at any of them. Out of favour at Spanish club Real Betis, he was loaned to FC Moscow last September and made four starts in the 2009 Russian season.
His Betis contract was terminated in January and Lokomotiv gave him a two-year deal after a return to FC Moscow fell through when the club was disbanded.
He initially played as a midfielder in his homeland for Olimpija and Domzale, and had an unsuccessful trial at Bolton in December 2006. He joined Real Betis the following month but made only 34 league appearances in three years in Spain.
Ilic started the first four World Cup qualifiers but then lost his place due to his lack of club games and has since been restricted to sporadic substitute appearances.
