Player Profile
Before Serbia’s friendly with Japan in April, Mrdja was given little chance of making the plane for South Africa, but a two-goal performance meant Radomir Antic could not leave him out.
He is one of only three players in the squad still plying their trade in Serbia and finished the 2009-10 season as the league’s top scorer this season with 22 goals in 29 matches for Vojvodina.
Mrdja has had spells in Belgium and Russia but was named club captain by Vojvodina after returning home and scored four goals in their 7-0 win over Napredak Krusevac on the final day of the season, to add to two hat-tricks earlier in the campaign.
Antic has been impressed with versatility as he is comfortable playing in a variety of positions across the frontline. He made his debut for Serbia in 2008, but did not appear in any World Cup qualifiers.
