Player Profile

“Kolarov is an extraordinary player” is the view of no less a figure than former Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho, now installed with Real Madrid.

Mourinho is one of many coaches in European football who have been tracking the left-back’s progress since he joined Lazio from OFK Beograd in 2007.

A member of the Serbian team at the 2007 European Under-21 Championship and 2008 Olympics, he has become a regular member of the senior squad under Radomir Antic.

Kolarov was involved in controversy at the end of the Serie A season for attacking the behaviour of the Lazio fans, who were happy to see their team lose to Inter as it meant their bitter rivals Roma did not win the title.

“In my view it went beyond sporting rivalry, beyond common sense and intelligence. It isn’t a passion anymore, this is sick. I simply cannot understand how someone could prefer to damage another team rather than support their own,” he said.
