A defensive midfielder born in Kano, Nigeria, but brought up in Peckham, South London, Etuhu helped Fulham reach this season’s Europa League final. He played all 120 minutes of the defeat to Atletico Madrid in May. His two goals this season both came in Europe – he netted in a qualifier against FC Vetra and in the last 16 first leg away to Juventus.
First capped by the Super Eagles in 2007, he made four appearances at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. His brother Kelvin is on Manchester City’s books, and spent this season on loan at Cardiff.
His career began at Manchester City, but first team opportunities were limited so he moved to Preston for £300,000 in January 2002. He had two seasons with Norwich before spending a year under Roy Keane at Sunderland. Fulham paid £2.5m for his signature in 2008.
