One of two uncapped players named in the squad in May, Reid only committed his international football to the country of his birth in March. Of Maori descent, he arrived in Europe aged 11 when his mother moved to Denmark to live with her new Danish partner. He played youth football for his adopted nation up to Under-21 level but made his New Zealand debut against Australia in May.
He turned down a call from the All Whites in 2007 but reconsidered after a Kiwi journalist contacted him via Facebook, explaining that under Fifa rules he was still eligible to play for New Zealand. After speaking with coach Ricki Herbert, he committed his future to New Zealand in March 2010, saying he had a “gut feeling that it was time to play for New Zealand” .
His impressive club form saw him linked with a move to Italy’s Serie A and touted as an outsider for the Danish World Cup squad. He made his top-flight debut aged 17 and has been a regular for the past two seasons. He also played both legs of his side’s Uefa Cup loss to Manchester City in August 2008.
Reid, who is 6ft 3in (1.9m) tall, says his best position is at centre-back, although he has also played right-back for his club. He has played in midfield at youth level.
