Player Profile

De Zeeuw is a tough-tackling defensive midfielder who has enjoyed a rapid rise – only five years ago he was playing in the lower leagues. Part of Dutch side that won the European Under-21 Championship in 2006, De Zeeuw was promoted to the senior squad in 2008 and featured in one match at that summer’s European Championship.

He made three appearances in qualifying, against Scotland, Norway and Iceland (as a substitute).

He joined AZ from Go Ahead Eagles in 2005. At Alkmaar he was an integral part of Louis van Gaal’s title-winning team of 2008/09, the club’s first league title in 28 years. His performances earned him a £5m transfer to Dutch giants Ajax last summer, helping Martin Jol’s side to victory in the Dutch Cup and second place in the league.
