Player profile
Osorio is a versatile defender who can play either centre-back or right-back. Comfortable on the ball and an uncompromising tackler, he is a favourite of coach Javier Aguirre, although his lack of first-team action at Stuttgart this season is sure to be a concern.
Osorio impressed on his international debut against Brazil at the 2003 Concacaf Gold Cup and was one of Mexico’s best performers at the 2006 World Cup. He stayed on in Germany following the tournament after agreeing a £3.3m transfer to Stuttgart from Cruz Azul and won the Bundesliga title in his first season.
After three good years at Stuttgart he has spent most of this season on the bench. He is available on a free transfer and is almost certain to be on the move following the World Cup.
His only international goal was a spectacular long-range effort against Uruguay at the 2004 Copa America in Peru. PAUL AGUILAR
Aguilar is an attacking right-back who made his debut in 2009 but did not play in any of the World Cup qualifiers and was an unexpected inclusion by coach Javier Aguirre. However, a series of impressive performances in May’s World Cup warm-up games justified his selection.
He has been with Mexican club Pachuca since 2006 and won the Clausura title (champions of the second half of the season) there in 2006/07. He has also won the Concacaf Champions League three times, in 2007, 2008 and 2009/10.
