Player Profile
Castro is a hard-working, technically gifted central midfielder. A relative late-comer to international football, he only made his Mexico debut in 2007 at the age of 27 and was an integral member of the 2009 Gold Cup-winning side. Though not known for his goalscoring, he has a tremendous long range shot.
A product of the Pumas youth set-up, Castro is a one-club man and has been the heartbeat of his club side’s midfield since becoming a first-team regular in 2003. He was virtually ever-present in Pumas' two championship-winning seasons in 2004 and added a third league title in 2008/2009.
He began his career as a right-back before switching to midfield and, impressively for a tough tackling midfielder, has only been sent off once in his career.
