Player profile

A powerful, pacy full-back who likes to get forward, Nagatomo has been a regular under coach Takeshi Okada. The right-footer can play on either flank, although he is more often used on the left.

The 23-year-old is in his fourth season at FC Tokyo, has been a regular in the side since 2008 and was named in the J-League best XI for the first time last season.

He was part of the Japan Under-23 side that played two and lost two at the Beijing Olympics. Nagatomo has reportedly held talks with Italian club Bologna about a move after the World Cup, while Tony Mowbray was apparently keen to bring him to Celtic last year.
