Player Profile

The tricky striker made his debut back in 2004 and scored a stunning left-footer against Brazil at the 2006 finals in Germany. A regular for Zico, he was ignored by Ivica Osim and his international career looked to be over until current boss Takeshi Okada handed him a surprise recall in March 2008.

He played a major role in Japan’s Asia Cup win in China in 2004, but has struggled to reproduce that form since. He suffered a groin strain at the beginning of May but it is not thought to be serious.

The 30-year-old spent seven seasons with Kashiwa Reysol but when the club were relegated in 2005 he signed for Nagoya Grampus. He hit eight goals in 24 starts as Grampus finished the 2009 season in ninth.
