Player profile

Kawashima enjoyed an excellent 2009 season as Kawasaki finished in second place behind Kashima Antlers in the J-League. His performances earned him a place in the J-League best XI for the first time.

Handed his international debut soon after coach Takeshi Okada’s return to the national side, he also kept goal at the 2003 Under-20 World Cup as Japan reached the last eight.

The 27-year-old spent three season as Seigo Narazaki’s understudy at Nagoya Grampus before signing for Kawasaki in 2007, where he has established himself as one of the J-League’s most highly-rated keepers. His career began with Omiya Ardija in 2002.
