Romaric, full name Christian Koffi Ndri, is back in the squad after being left out of the Africa Cup of Nations in January for an alleged breach of discipline by coach Vahid Halilhodzic.
It will be his second World Cup, having made one appearance against the Netherlands during the 2006 finals. Since then he has been in and out of the team due to the form of first-choice midfielders Yaya Toure and Didier Zokora.
Zokora’s performances also overshadowed him at their club side Sevilla and he endured a frustrating season. The club prospered though, qualifying for the Champions League and winning the Copa Del Rey.
Romaric arrived in Spain in 2008 after leaving Le Mans in a £7m deal. He says the Ivory Coast team need to perform well in South Africa to win back the support of the fans after their Africa Cup of Nations disaster: “We need to warm people’s hearts, even if it’s a love-hate relationship.”
