Player Profile
The Wigan defensive midfielder played in all but three of Honduras’s World Cup qualifiers and scored in the 3-1 win against Canada.
He captained Honduras at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing but his side bowed out at the first stage after defeats against Italy, Cameroon and South Korea.
Precociously talented as a youngster, Thomas made his debut in the Honduran top flight for Club Deportivo Olimpia at the age of 16. After turning 23, he was given a trial by French first division team Toulouse, only for his lack of experience to prevent him being offered a contract.
But his big break came last season when Wigan strengthened their ties with Honduran football by spending £1.75m to bring Thomas to the DW Stadium, where he followed compatriots Palacios and Figueroa.
He comes from a strong footballing family. A cousin of Honduras team-mate David Suazo, he can also count two other Honduras internationals among his relatives; Maynor Suazo and Allan Lalin.
