The veteran goalkeeper replaced Antonis Nikopolidis after Euro 2008 but lost his place for the play-off against Ukraine after picking up an injury.
Chalkias has spent most of his international career playing second fiddle to Nikopolidis - he was an unused squad member at Euros 2004 and 2008. He joined Greek side PAOK from Aris Salonika in 2008, and helped his team secure a place in Champions League qualifying in the season just gone.
He is best remembered in England for an unsuccessful spell with Portsmouth in 2004/05, when he conceded 13 goals in six games.
