Player Profile
Addy impressed in January’s Africa’s Cup of Nations when he replaced Eric Addo for the second match against Burkina Faso. He retained his place on their march to the final to put himself in the frame for a starting spot at the World Cup.
He only made his debut for Ghana last September against Argentina. His preferred position is at centre-back but he can also play at full-back or as a defensive midfielder.
He started his professional career with Libya’s Tripoli SC but returned to Ghana to play for Premier League side Bechem Chelsea. He was named as the league’s best defender in 2008 and has continued to excel as Bechem recorded the second-best defensive record in the league this season, despite finishing in mid-table. He is the only outfield player in the squad who plays his football in the Ghanaian League.
