Little known Swiss side AC Bellinzona was Asamoah’s first European club after he left Liberty Professionals. He was loaned to Torino before Udinese snapped him up in 2008.
He made his debut against Sampdoria in January 2009 and has been a virtual ever-present since, alerting scouts from Europe’s biggest clubs. His performances have helped the Bianconeri away from the relegation places and Udinese have slapped a reported £27m price tag on his head.
Internationally, he caused a stir when, despite being uncapped, he was given the prestigious number 10 shirt for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in the absence Stephen Appiah. He did not make an appearance in that tournament, but turned in some sublime performances as an ever-present at this year’s competition.
