Player Profile
Annan has long been touted as the new Michael Essien, but he is still plying his trade in the Norwegian league with Rosenborg, despite reported interest from clubs in La Liga and the Premier League.
Yet another Hearts of Oak graduate, he moved to Norway’s IK Start in 2007, but illness and injury saw his form dip and he was shipped out on loan to Stabæk. His displays in their midfield earned him a trial at Blackburn Rovers, but despite impressing then Rovers boss Paul Ince, a deal never materialised.
On transfer deadline day in August 2008, Rosenborg paid a reported £1.2m to sign him from Start and he has since won the 2009 Norwegian title and the club’s Player of the Year award.
After making his Ghana debut in 2007, he was a near ever-present in qualifying for the World Cup, playing 11 out of Ghana’s 12 matches. He missed the first three matches of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations with a hamstring problem, but recovered to start the semi-final and final.
