Only Wolfsburg’s Edin Dzeko scored more goals than Kiessling in the Bundesliga last season but Bayer Leverkusen fell away at the end of the season and missed out on a Champions League spot.
Despite that he could be proud of a return of 21 goals in 35 games and signed a new long-term contract in March tying him to the Werkself till 2015.
Kiessling, who once left his boots in the hotel before an Under-21 international, was named in the Best XI of the season by German magazine, Kicker, but did not feature in any of Germany’s qualifiers
However, he has impressed with his willingness to run the channels and for his poaching skills in the penalty area.
