An ankle injury suffered at the end of March looked to have put Jansen’s World Cup place in doubt, but under the watchful eye of German - and Bayern Munich - team doctor, Hans Muller-Wohlfahrt, he recovered in time to make the squad.
Jansen established himself as Germany’s first-choice left-back in the run-up to the 2006 finals, but his form tailed off in the warm-up matches and he made one appearance in the tournament, playing in the third place play-off win over Portugal.
Normally plays in a more advanced role on the left side of midfield for his club and prior to his injury, he had enjoyed an excellent season, scoring at a rate of nearly one goal every three games.
His wife, Julia Godicke, is a model and was part of fashion shoot ahead of the World Cup featuring Wags (wives and girlfriends) of players from various competing nations posing in football strips.
