Player Profile
The central defender has failed to convince at international level and is likely to start the World Cup on the bench, having previously been a non-playing member of France’s 2008 European Championship squad.
He reached the 2004 Champions League final with Monaco - although he did not play in the 3-0 defeat by Porto - before signing for Olympique Lyonnais in 2006.
In two seasons at Stade Gerland he won successive league titles, earning himself a £5m transfer to Spanish club Sevilla, where he has formed a good partnership in the heart of the defence with France team-mate Julien Escude.
Squillaci underwent ankle surgery in January and missed two months of the season but is now back to full fitness.
