Player Profile
The Bordeaux defender was a surprise inclusion in France’s 23-man squad and only made his debut as a second-half substitute against Tunisia at the end of May.
Thought to have been included in the preliminary squad as a back-up in case William Gallas failed to prove his fitness, he was retained following Lassana Diarra’s withdrawal because of illness.
A one-club man, Planus made his debut for Bordeaux in 2002 and has been a mainstay in their back four ever since, playing a key role in the 2008/09 title-winning campaign and this season’s run to the Champions League quarter-finals.
The 28-year-old signed a new contract in April, keeping him at Les Girondins until 2015.
