Player Profile
Ribery’s season ended in controversy with the Bayern Munich winger missing the Champions League final through suspension and finding himself at the centre of a sex scandal in his homeland.
A poll in one French newspaper found that six out of 10 readers thought it was 'morally unacceptable' for Ribery to continue with the national team.
But his performances since joining Bayern for £17m in 2007 have elevated him to the status of one of the world’s best players and it was never likely that coach Raymond Domenech would dispense with his services.
Something of a late developer, Ribery only made his international debut in a warm-up match for the 2006 World Cup but went on to play in all seven matches in Germany and scored his first international goal in the 3-1 second round win against Spain.
He also featured in all three games at Euro 2008 but suffered ankle ligament damage against Italy in the final group game.
