An enduring model of consistency, Lampard has scored 20 goals or more in each of the last six seasons for Chelsea and a career-best tally of 27 helped them to a league and FA Cup double in May.
He has now won three league titles and FA Cups and two League Cups in his nine years at Chelsea, after joining them from West Ham for £11m in June 2001.
Lampard found the net three times at Euro 2004, his first major international tournament, but failed to score in a hugely disappointing World Cup in 2006 and was the target for occasional jeers from sections of England’s support during Steve McClaren’s reign.
He put that behind him and was England’s only ever-present in the World Cup qualification campaign, scoring four goals despite playing a slightly deeper role under Fabio Capello.
In an IQ test last year, Lampard reportedly scored more than 150 - which puts him in the top 0.1% of the population.
