Player Profile
The blisteringly quick winger was in the form of his life in the first half of the season, but then suffered a groin problem which was originally expected to sideline him for two weeks but in fact kept him out of action for four months.
Prior to his injury, he had shown a new-found maturity on the pitch, which he attributed to varying his game and improving his crossing.
Lennon made three appearances as a substitute at the 2006 World Cup but his best performance so far for England came in the 5-1 home win over Croatia in last September’s qualifier. He was fouled for the penalty that put England ahead and then delivered a perfect cross for Steven Gerrard to double the lead.
Currently the joint shortest player in the Premier League, at 5ft 5ins (165 cm), he was also once the youngest player ever to appear in the division, having come off the bench for Leeds against Tottenham in August 2003 at the age of 16 years and 129 days.
Two years later he moved to White Hart Lane for £1m and he was named Tottenham Supporters’ Player of the Year in 2009.
