Beausejour is a left-winger who developed a good understanding with striker Humberto Suazo during the World Cup qualifiers. Quick and direct, his crossing ability is vital to Chile’s style of play.
The 26-year-old has played for eight clubs in as many years, and has been at Mexican side America since December 2008. He first left Chile in 2004 to spend a season at Servette in Switzerland, followed by short spells with Brazilian club Gremio and Gent of Belgium.
A year after returning to Chile in 2007, he scored a career-best 12 goals in 30 games for O’Higgins to earn his Mexico move.
Beausejour was born to a Chilean mother and Haitian father, who was caught up in the earthquake that devastated the impoverished country in January. Beausejour had to anxiously wait for a week before his dad Coty could get in touch to say he was safe.
