Player profile

Carmona captained the Chile side that finished third at the Under-20 World Cup in 2007, and he has since become an important part of the senior team.

Normally deployed in central midfield, he featured in 11 of the World Cup qualifiers and brings high energy and aggression to the side. The downside to his style of play is the number of bookings he picks up - he served three separate suspensions during the qualifying campaign, amassing six yellow cards.

The midfield grafter was an established member of the starting line-up for hometown club Coquimbo from the age of 17. He moved to another top-flight club, O’Higgins, in 2007 and left a year later for Italian side Reggina.

They narrowly avoided a second successive relegation in May, with Carmona starting all but one of his 35 appearances in Serie B.
