Player Profile
Chedjou was a regular for Lille last season, helping the French side finish fourth in Ligue 1. He also featured in both their Europa League matches against Liverpool. He was primarily a centre-back during a two-year spell with Auxerre, but more recently has operated as a defensive midfielder.
He was a youth player with Spanish club Villarreal before joining French side Pau in 2003. After a move to Auxerre, he had a spell with lower-division side Rouen in 2006 before signing for Lille. He made his Cameroon debut last year and featured briefly in their World Cup qualification campaign.
Chedjou – or Aurelien Bayard Chedjou Fongang, to give him his full name – was nurtured at Cameroon’s Kadji Sports Academy along with several others top players from the country, including Samuel Eto’o. He left there for Villarreal at the age of 17.
