One of the form centre-backs in Europe during his first season with AC Milan, Thiago Silva has formed a defensive wall with Alessandro Nesta that has proved hard to break down.
His form has been so good that he has been linked with a £75 million joint move with team-mate and compatriot Alexandre Pato to Chelsea this summer.
His career began at Juventude and he quickly attracted scouts from Europe, but after two disappointing spells with Porto and Dinamo Moscow he returned to Brazil and rebuilt his reputation at Fluminense. AC Milan came calling and he signed for the Rossoneri, making his debut at the start of this season.
He played just 68 minutes of Brazil’s qualifying matches for South Africa, but his performances in friendly matches since have been so impressive that in the match with England in November he was commended for his display against in-form striker Wayne Rooney.
He loves to join in with attacks, hardly a surprise given he started off as a right-winger and also played in central midfield. He shares his name with UFC cage fighting superstar Thiago Silva.
