A player who rarely, if ever, catches the headlines, Josue was front page news in May 2009 when he captained unfashionable Wolfsburg to their first ever Bundesliga title.
While team-mate for club and country, Grafite, grabbed the glory, he made the team tick with a series of tireless shifts in the centre of midfield.
Wolfsburg have benefitted from a reliability that has seen him miss just four league games in the past two seasons. Although Wolfsburg were unable to replicate the success of the 2008/09 season this time round, new manager Steve McClaren will be sure to call on his experience.
Favoured by national coach Dunga for his ability to pass and move, he offers his coach more of an attacking threat than Gilberto Silva or Felipe Melo, but acts very much as their understudy and has been in and out of the side. He made his debut prior to the 2007 Copa America and started four games in that tournament.
Josue made 220 league appearances in the Brazilian top-flight for Goias and Sao Paulo. He enjoyed a stunning year in 2005 winning the Campeonato Paulista, Copa Libertadores and Fifa Club World Cup for O Tricolor Paulista.
