Player Profile
An international regular in the heart of defence, Halliche was one of three players hurt when the Algerian team bus was stoned in Cairo ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Egypt..
He received a cut above his eye, with the image of his bloodied face published in international newspapers and online. His Egyptian curse continued in the meeting of the two sides at the Africa Cup of Nations when he conceded a soft penalty as he tried to make amends for a missed clearance and became the first of three Algerians to be sent off.
It was the defender’s winner against Mali that resurrected Algeria’s Cup of Nations tournament after their shock loss to Malawi in their opening game.
Halliche has been on loan at Nacional on the Portuguese island of Madeira since January 2008. He had started his career with Algerian club Hussein Dey and was brought to Portugal by Benfica, who immediately loaned him out. The 23-year-old started only 10 league games in 2009/10, but made his debut in European competition as Nacional reached the Europa League group stage.
