Player Profile
The centre-back made his Algeria debut a mere 16 days before their opening World Cup match, playing all 90 minutes of the abject 3-0 defeat by the Republic of Ireland. He was one of the few Algerian players to emerge with any credit.
Born in a suburb of Paris, he represented France at all age levels up to Under-21 and was also eligible to represent Algeria and Tunisia. As recently as January, Bellaid said he had no preference between the two African nations.
Bellaid spent the 2009/10 season on loan with two French clubs, both of whom were relegated. He played at Strasbourg in the Second Division until January and then at top flight Boulogne. He is contracted to Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, who he joined in 2008.
The 24-year-old is a product of the famous Clairfontaine academy in France and started his career with Strasbourg. He was heavily linked with a £2m move to Portsmouth in January 2008.
