Van Nistelrooy was forced to watch the Dutch defeat from the sidelines
Ruud van Nistelrooy says he can now think about sorting out his future at Manchester United following Holland's exit from the World Cup.

The Dutch striker fell out of favour with Sir Alex Ferguson last season and says the next move is up to the club.

"I must get away from the World Cup and deal with it, then I will think about my future," he said.

"Maybe in this coming week we have to see what United do and if there are a lot of teams getting involved."

Van Nistelrooy's future at the club has been unclear since he was dropped for the Carling Cup final in February.

Both the player and Ferguson played down any talk of a rift at the time, but van Nistelrooy struggled to dislodge Louis Saha in the team for the rest of the season.

I didn't agree with him totally but I accepted and respected his decision

"Whatever happens will happen. I have to assess that and see what is best for me," said the Dutchman.

"There must be some kind of contact between the club and myself. If nothing happens I'll be at United next season."

He suffered another setback on Sunday when he was an unused substitute in the Dutch's 1-0 loss to Portugal.

But despite not being used, he insisted he did not have a problem with coach Marco van Basten.

"I said what I wanted. I didn't agree with him totally but I accepted and respected his decision," he added.

"I was happy that he came to me and told me and whether I agreed or not I had to take it and move on and focus on the game and maybe a great moment for me as a sub.

"He won't say anything about it and I wouldn't. It was a one-on-one and that's the way it should be."
