Eriksson predicts England final
England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson
Eriksson insists he will not plot a tactical route to the final
Sven-Goran Eriksson is confident his England team will go all the way to the World Cup final in Germany.

Even with injury doubts hanging over star players Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen, Eriksson is certain his group of players will peak for the tournament.

The Swede told the FA website: "I believe we are one of five or six teams who can win it.

"If we have a bit of luck, our ambition must be to be in the final in Berlin on 9 July. I think we will get there."

Eriksson's five-year reign as England boss will come to an end after the tournament, with coach Steve McClaren taking over whatever happens.

Determined to go out on a high, Eriksson plans to adopt an attacking policy from the very first game against Paraguay on 10 June.

I am excited about what we can achieve - we have a chance to make history
England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson

The Swede also believes the squad he has assembled is better than those who went to Japan and Korea in 2002, when England went out in the quarter-finals.

"You can't mess around with winning games in a World Cup," said Eriksson. "We will try to win every game and see where that takes us.

"The squad is better, the team is better and we have more experience.

"No other team will have as many supporters travelling to follow them and we hope we will see them provide the same amazing support.

"I am excited about what we can achieve in this World Cup. We have a chance to make history."
