The Angola squad returned from the World Cup in Germany to a euphoric reception usually reserved for champions.
Fifty thousand people welcomed the Black Antelopes with posters saying, "Thank You" and "We're Special."
In its first World Cup, Angola lost 1-0 to Portugal and drew 0-0 with Mexico and 1-1 with Iran to finish third in Group D with two points.
Festivities in the team's honour will continue throughout the week.
"The way they acted showed that Angola plays good
football and walked into world football through the main
door," said Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos at
an earlier ceremony.
"The team played for love of the jersey, with determination and sacrifice.
"Our participation was good and dignified."
