Germany 2-0 Sweden
Saturday, 24 June 2006

1754: Sloane
It was a very impressive game for Germany, it's going to be a interesting quarter-final, possibly against Argentina.

1740: karlosfand4ngo
Regardless of the howler from the ref Sweden were never gonna win this. They were outclassed early on, if anything Sweden have been more in the game since they have been down to 10 men.

1732: ryan
I have no problem with Germany winning, it's just a pity that the same Sweden team that competed so well with England look like a lower division side who decided they would lose before they went on to the pitch.

1728: Besonders
Two things I've noticed in the second half: (1) Germany have stopped being quite so good against 10 man Sweden and (2) 10-man Sweden have stopped being quite so lousy in defence.

1720: tiger_soup
You can see in Ballack how much it means to get in the third goal. The only person who seems to be putting up a real fight for Sweden is Ljungberg. For all the criticism of Germany, they are actually playing well.

1710: makaay_10
Now there can be no excuses about the referee as that was a pretty soft penalty by Larsson.

1650: RobG
Referees are beginning to ruin this World Cup with their card-happy attitude. Since when does holding someone back immediately warrant a yellow card?

1644: Defoe'sRightPeg
Don't rule out Sweden yet. This is the same Germany that struggled at the back v Costa Rica, and if Sweden nick a goal soon, they're right back in it.

1639: England: Haters' Favourite
That decision to send off Lucic was atrocious. And the referee smiled and was patted on the back by a German player. Disgraceful. Basically just decided the game.

1628: worshipleader
Sweden look beaten already, I think they need to score very soon or the game will run away from them completely

1622: biskot
Germany are looking truly awesome! Podolski is on fire with two cool goals. Sweden are out of this, it looks too easy.

1617: Martin Allen's loyalty card
Germans showing exactly how poor this Swedish side is. All those people getting excited about England's first-half display against them should note how easily Germany are cutting through them. It could end up with a cricket score!!

1605: BlueVaio
1-0 already! Germany are going to take Sweden to the cleaners!

1554: gonefishing
Germany are under more pressure to do well as they are playing at home. Sweden will win 2-1.

1541: taxi_driver
I expect Germany to score early, and then hang on in the second half against a physically stronger side (much like England did). However its a close call, and really depends on Germany being ahead at half-time, if they are not, I think Sweden will knock them out.

1532: black_yellow_fever
Statistics don't favour Sweden: since 1950, Germany has always made the last eight in every World Cup. Only Brazil has a better WC record.

1527: Shackled
Germany will win 3-1. Sweden aren't a force, even England played them off the park first-half.

1520: swindonabroad
I don't know if it's out of hope or a genuine feeling but maybe this could be the so called 'shock' of the round. Sweden haven't been great and yes Germany have looked pretty good, but Sweden know how to play against teams from Europe and before the tournament even the Germans weren't confident about their team. As I said reckon it's more out of hope but come on Sweden!

1515: ArmchairPro
I reckon it'll either be 2-1 to Sweden or Germany will win on penalties.

1512: jasedeace
I think it'll be a close game, and low scoring, but Germany's home support, in-form striker and general jamminess will see them through to the quarter-finals.
