Ghana 2-1 USA
Thursday, 22 June 2006

Good win for Ghana. Pity they won't have Essien for the Brazil game. When they played without him at the African Nations Cup, they looked a much-weakened side! It's amazing how the absence of one person can make such a difference.

USA have been naive in this tournament. A lack of chances created. That wasn't a penalty, but there's definitely something missing in the US team.

The time wasting by Ghana is disgusting - every 5 mins a players falls to the ground and just lies there even if there was no contact.

I'll be glad to see the Americans go out. Imagine all those fans carrying on about how they deserved to go through because of "their ranking". Besides, Ghana are a much more fun side to watch anyway.

Come on Ghana. Keep it tight on the wings and this game is all yours.

Johnson is finally on for the USA. About time, he should have started this game along side McBride. The USA needs to start sending everyone forward and attack with full strength.

Realistically I think this second half sums up how far the U.S. has come. We have a golden opportunity to be the heroes and go to the second round against a great team but by no means a powerhouse. No more excuses; let's put this game away.

That was so not a penalty, one of the worst referees of this tournament. What a horrendous decision.

Finally the USA scores it's first real goal. Way to go Dempsey. One more goal and an Italy win, dare I say it "Miracle on Grass". Great sub putting Olsen in there, he's a local guy.

Super Ghana to win the match, group and almost certainly the tournament! Monster.

Essien booked after six minutes and will miss the next game if Ghana go through. No surprise really.

I pick Ghana to win 2-1, and the Czechs to hold Italy 1-1. Italy to take second place on goal difference.

Can't believe Bruce Arena is not starting Eddie Johnson, what is he doing? McBride needs more help up front and Johnson adds speed and more size. The lack of goals shows that not taking Taylor Twellmen to Germany was a huge mistake.

Both teams will probably have to win to proceed, so it should make for an attacking, entertaining match hopefully. If Essien shines, I think it could be a long afternoon for our cousins from across the pond. I hope for the best, but fear the worst.

I hope Ghana win, they played really well against the Czechs and it would be a shame if they don't perform against a lesser team like the U.S. I don't think they will let themselves down, but it would be nice to see an African team go through to the second round.

My prediction is that Ghana will win this game quite comfortably, 3-0 I reckon.

I see this game being a draw. I've got that weird feeling that Italy are gonna lose today, though.

  Italy 3 4 7
  Ghana 3 1 6
  Czech R 3 -1 3
  USA 3 -4 1
