2225: Fake Tales of Gelsenkirchen
I've been really impressed with the African teams thus far. But does anyone notice that all the African teams lack is a good striker. If either Angola or Ghana had a quality striker they most likely would have beaten Portugal and Italy respectively.
I wasn't disappointed with Ghana - I think we did well considering the inexperience! Yes we lost, but we weren't the complete pushover everyone was expecting.
It is a shame Ghana find themselves in the same group as Italy and Czech Republic because in most other groups they would have a real chance of second round action. As it is I can see an honourable third place for them.
Thought it was a terrific game - Italy certainly weren't comfortable and Ghana caused them problems, but, like Ivory Coast, weren't clinical enough although Essien was outstanding. Italy played well, nice not to see them reverting to type & sitting on a one goal lead.
What greatly dissapointed me was the wild inaccurate shooting of the Ghana players. As he has shown in his Chelsea uniform, Essien's shooting is all about power and less about accuracy. Italy were the deserved victors.
Still waiting for the first upset of the tournament - everything has gone according to the script so far.
2155: Xcellent Xabi
Italy were pretty solid and played well, though I thought Ghana weren't mugs.
Same story as Ivory Coast v Argentina. African team matches their higher-rated opponent - just can't finish! Let's be honest - Ghana squandered good chances in both halves!
2133: 8TEEN League Titles!!
Although play was stopped, Kuffour should've been sent off for that tackle on Iaquinta.
2132: So Near, So Kranjcar
You have got to feel for Iaquinta, he missed that chance, was narrowly offside to deny him a clear one on one, was desperately looking to atone for the earlier missed chance and then a disgraceful tackle could have seriously injured him.
Ghana's two forwards and the left and right backs are costing them dearly.
This is one of the worst African representations we've had in terms of tactical discipline and finshing (can't really see anything better coming from Togo and Tunisia). it seems they are all going home after the first phase.
Pirlo - poor marking by Ghana - that's the way to shoot!
The game is very entertaining so far with both teams really going for it - Ghana are looking very good but just like most of the African teams so far, their finishing isn't very good.
Ghana are getting chances against this so-called great defence.
Italy are looking strong early on. Very attacking and stylish. The Ghana goalkeeper looks like a deer caught in headlights...
Italy has got a strong team indeed, just look at the fact that they left Del Piero and Inzaghi on the bench.
1935: Cold War Kid
On their day, Italy are the strongest side in Europe. They won't get very far playing three up front though. That's just World Cup suicide - I think they'll beat Ghana, but only just.
Italy will overcome all of the garbage going on at home and may well win it all (just look at 1982!).
There is so much strength in the squad, and it has an attacking look about it - I can't wait to see these guys play.
1925: De Zeeuw
Italy's defence is their strong point. Nesta and Cannavaro are top class, but Zambrotta will be a big miss when they face tougher opponents.
1920: Roberto Rivelino
Ghana are a good side with Kuffor (Roma) in defence, Essien (Chelsea), Appiah (former Juventus) now with theTurkish champions and Mutara (Udinese).
They have a team with players playing the highest level of the game with Serie A experience so they will not be intimidated by Italy which is very important.
They will not be push overs, but I am still concerned that they do not have a world class striker to complement the defence and midfield - I hope we watch a fantastic game.
Italian football is immersed in corruption at the moment, and I for one hope they do not win the World Cup.
1904: So Near, So Kranjcar
Ghana will be swept aside by stronger, more organised European opposition - looking forward to the Toni and Gilardinho combination, should think it will be 3/4-0 to Italy.
