BBC Sport Online looks at the countries drawn in Group C at the 2002 World Cup finals.

BRAZIL
Coach: Luiz Felipe Scolari
Brazil suffered their worst qualifying campaign, losing six games and only qualifying in fourth position from their group.

They only seal their place by winning their final qualifier, a 3-0 triumph against Venezuela in Sao Luis, Rivaldo rounding off the victory with the last goal.

The four-time winners are still a symbol of the magic of the World Cup, and the competition's profile would have suffered in their absence.

Still capable of individual brilliance, they will not enter this tournament as one of the favourites.

TURKEY
Coach: Senol Gunes
Turkey qualified for the finals in impressive style with a 6-0 aggregate play-off win over Austria.

With players like Tugay, Alpay and Hakan Sukur operating at the top level in Europe's top league's and Galatasaray capturing the country's first European trophy, Turkey are an emerging soccer nation.

This is only their second appearance in the finals, and despite the quality of some of their players, a lack of experience at top international level could prove their undoing.

CHINA
Coach: Bora Milutinovic
China have qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time after emerging as impressive winners of Group B in the Asian second qualifying round.

They clinched their place with a 1-0 win over Oman, and they will be led by one of the World Cup's most charismatic figures.

Yugoslav Bora Milutinovic has won the hearts of the nation - and made World Cup history - by taking China to Korea and Japan.

China is the fifth different country he has taken to the finals, following on from Mexico, Costa Rica, the United States and Nigeria.

And under this most shrewd of operators, China will be highly organised.

COSTA RICA
Coach: Alexander Guimares
Costa Rica topped the CONCACAF final qualifying group, and will be hoping to revive memories of their campaign in Italia 90.

It was in Italy where they had a famous victory over Scotland.

Costa Rica reached the World Cup finals by beating the United States, and they will hope the goals of Rolando Fonseca, who scored twice in that crucial game, will have an impact in Korea and Japan.

And they also will be hoping Manchester City striker Paolo Wanchope will recover from a knee operation and be back in action at Maine Road in time to take part in World Cup combart.
