A minute after England had levelled for the first time, Greece rocked Old Trafford with a second goal through Demis Nikolaidis.

Nikos Dabizas reacted quicker than Gary Neville to help a deep cross into the path of Demis Nikolaidis, who got ahead of Rio Ferdinand.

Nikolaidis's first touch left Ferdinand frantically trying to recover his ground and he made himself space to sidefoot home a neat finish.

England goalkeeper Nigel Martyn made a desperate dive to his right, but could not get near the ball as England found themselves behind once more.
