Minute-by-minute action from Germany's 0-0 draw with Finland, that means Rudi Völler's side must settle for a place in the play-offs to qualify for the World Cup.
1500 BST: The game gets underway to the sound of a noisy home crowd. 3 mins: Germany put the Finnish defence under early pressure by winning a corner. 12 mins: Finland's Jari Litmanen is fouled by Germany's Christian Wörns. But nothing comes from the resulting free-kick as Finland waste a good opportunity to threaten the German goal. 15 mins: Germany's Joerg Böhme whips an excellent cross into the Finland area but team-mate Michael Ballack fails to get near it. 19 mins: Germany's Oliver Bierhoff strays just offside after a defence-splitting pass from the back. 22 mins: The home crowd become frustrated with their team's inability to convert possession into a decent opening. 24 mins: Germany's Böhme takes a corner which Bierhoff leaps for but fails to direct on target. 26 mins: Finland's Mika Nurmela's shot on the German goal is blocked by Jens Novotny, who is left carrying an injury.

62 mins: Germany and Spurs wing-back Christian Ziege fires a free-kick wide after second-half substitute Gerald Asamoah is crudely brought down on the edge of the area.
64 mins: Germany's Bierhoff hits the upright with a fiercely-struck shot.
65 mins: Finland bring on Shefki Kuqi for Charlton's Jonatan Johansson.
67 mins: The German crowd cannot believe their eyes as Bierhoff strikes the ball straight at the Finnish keeper and then has a header cleared off the line from the resulting corner.
75 mins: Germany's Bierhoff is again denied by the woodwork and Neuville fails to put away the rebound as Finland escape once more thanks to some desperate defending.
78 mins: Finland's Litmanen forces an excellent save from Kahn in the German goal.
80 mins: Germany's Asamoah goes down in the Finland area but all penalty appeals are waved away by Swedish referee Anders Frisk. 83 mins: Finland's Forssell is forced off the pitch after challenging for the ball with Germany's Ziege. 90 mins: The referee's assistant signals three minutes of added time as Germany go in search of the winner.
91 mins: Finland keeper Antti Niemi is tested by Germany's Ballack.
93 mins: Germany are held to a goalless draw by Finland as they wait to hear if they will top Group Nine. Full time: Germany 0-0 Finland 94 mins: Germany are forced into the play-offs after David Beckham's last-gasp equaliser against Greece sends England through to next year's World Cup finals.
