England's 2-0 victory over Albania on Wednesday night was watched on BBC1 by an audience of 11.4m viewers - with a peak of 13.9m.

Coverage of the match also doubled the audience that Channel 5 had for England's game in Albania back in March this year.

The game helped BBC1 achieve its highest peak hours share for a Wednesday night since Christmas Day 1996.

Sky Sports' simultaneous coverage of the match attracted 500,000 viewers.

BBC1 had 11 times more viewers for the match than Sky Sports' coverage in multi-channel homes.

Saturday's 5-1 win inGermany attracted an average of 12.7 m viewers to BBC1's Match of the Day programme.
