Germany in control after Albania win
![]() Marko Rehmer celebrates scoring Germany's opener
Albania 0-2 Germany
Germany took some of the gloss off England's win over Greece by comprehensively beating Albania in Tirana. Marko Rehmer put the visitors ahead in the 28th minute against the run of play. Bayern Munich striker Carsten Jancker flicked on a header for Rehmer to sweep in a right-foot volley in the 28th minute as he lingered unmarked at the left-hand post. Albania's Lille midfielder Edwin Murati and Carsten Ramelow were then involved in a tussle and both were sent packing by French referee Gilles Veissiere. After the break Albania came out inspired and quickly took control of the game. German keeper Oliver Kahn was forced to come out of goal and clear the ball twice as the hosts threatened. But Michael Ballack confirmed their victory with a second goal in the 68th minute. The victory kept the Germans in control of World Cup qualifying group nine. They are still six points ahead of England, who have a game in hand on them. It was the first time in 20 years in which Germany had managed to score two goals against Albania.
