Beckham praises team England
David Beckham celebrates his goal
David Beckham celebrates his crucial second goal
England captain David Beckham hailed an outstanding team performance following the vital 2-0 win in Greece.

Beckham, who sealed victory with a superb late free kick, was one of England's star performers on the night but insisted: "It was a team performance.

"You can look right through the team and be impressed. The back four were excellent. Rio Ferdinand and Martin Keown were excellent in the middle of defence.

This win puts us in a better position - it's up to us now
  David Beckham
"We had said that if we could keep it to 0-0 at half-time we were always likely to have chances.

"Robbie Fowler was brilliant up front and so was Michael Owen alongside him."

The disciplined performance leaves England six points behind Germany with a game in hand and the trip to Munich in September is now of massive importance.

Beckham was reluctant to get carried away but said: "This win puts us in a better position.

"We had said 'let's get to seven points and take it from there'. Now we have three more and we can go on from here.

"It is up to us now."
