![]() Elland Road beckons for England
![]() Elland Road last played host to England in 1995
Elland Road will stage England's friendly international with Italy next year - much to the delight of Leeds United officials.
"Obviously everyone involved with the club is absolutely delighted that our ground has been chosen to host such an attractive game," said club secretary Ian Silvester. "It is a great honour for the club. We are delighted to be awarded this game and we are planning already, even though it is a long time in the future." With Wembley being redeveloped, England are being forced to play a number of internationals at club grounds. The decision means Elland Road, which hosts the Italy game on 27 March, is set to join St James' Park, Anfield, White Hart Lane and Pride Park as venues for forthcoming England matches. England last played at Elland Road in 1995 when they drew 3-3 with Sweden and it was also used to stage matches during Euro 96.
