Swedish surprise at Eriksson decision
Sven Goran Eriksson
Eriksson may be mobile according to Gentzel
Sven Goran Erikkson was first noticed for his skills as a coach when he took charge of top Swedish side IFK Gothenburg in 1979.

He won the Uefa Cup twice during his three-year reign with the club and one man who knows him well from those heady days is the managing director of the Swedish club, Bo Gentzel.

Gentzel spoke on BBC Five Live's Nicky Campbell show about his surprise at Eriksson taking on the role of England coach.

"To be honest I never thought he'd leave Italy for northern Europe," said Gentzel.

"As far as I know he likes the climate and the money."

Gentzel did suggest that the current Lazio boss may not choose to live in England because of his love of warmer countries.

"I read on the internet about some speculation in the Swedish papers that he may not live in England, although I know the people in England would not be happy with that."

Eriksson becomes the first foreign coach to take charge of England.

And Gentzel was adamant that the Swedish coach would be able to adapt to the style of managing English football.

"When Eriksson was in Gothenburg in 1979 he learnt from two English trainers who were there at the time, Bob Houghton and Roy Hodgson," added Gentzel.

"And he plays a a 4-4-2 system so he already has a head start as far as English tactics are concerned."

However Gentzel did conclude by saying that Eriksson is foolish to accept the offer.

"I dont know why he is taking it. I don't believe it at the moment. He will certainly be hounded by the English press."
