Sunderland go clear at top of Women's Premier League

By Tony Leighton

Women's football

Jordan Nobbs grabbed two goals as Sunderland beat Watford 4-2 to move four points clear at the top of the Women's Premier League.

Reading won 2-0 at Blackburn Rovers to leapfrog their opponents into second place on goal difference.

Blackburn slipped to third and Nottingham Forest dropped to fourth after a 2-2 draw with Millwall.

The meeting of the bottom two clubs, Barnet and Leeds United, was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Sunderland 4-2 Watford

The Black Cats twice had to come from behind before coasting to a third victory in four league outings.

Lillie Billson gave Watford an eighth minute lead, and after Demi Stokes had levelled four minutes later Charlotte Young restored the visitors' lead in the 14th minute.

Sophie Williams grabbed Sunderland's second equaliser nine minutes into the second half and then Nobbs goals in the 57th and 75th minutes saw the leaders home.

Blackburn Rovers 0-2 Reading

After a slow start to the season Reading, in their first National Division campaign following promotion, have rapidly climbed the table.

The Royals were beaten 2-1 at home by Blackburn in their second match of the season but claimed a satisfying revenge.

After a goalless first half Linda Hirons gave the visitors a 54th-minute lead, and Francesca Kirby hit the victory clincher seven minutes from time.

Millwall Lionesses 2-2 Nottingham Forest

The visitors twice went in front but could not hang on for a victory that would have taken them up to second place.

Lyndsey Cunningham scored the Forest opener after only seven minutes, but 11 minutes later the Lionesses drew level through Kate Longhurst.

And after Suzanne Davies had netted a 75th minute goal to put Forest back in the lead, Longhurst bagged her second of the afternoon 13 minutes from time.
