Everton striker Natasha Dowie happy to put the miles in

Winning the FA Cup makes travelling from London to Liverpool every week more than worthwhile for Everton Ladies striker Natasha Dowie.

Dowie scored twice in Everton's 3-2 win Cup Final win over Arsenal on Monday.

"That's why I drive three and a half hours every week to play for Everton," Dowie told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"I came to Everton to win silverware and we've won the League Cup and we've won the FA Cup. Now we must push on and push Arsenal for the league."

Everton meet the Gunners in the league on Sunday, with the Blues eight points behind their title rivals.

The 21-year-old says her side will not give up on the league crown until it is mathematically impossible.

"We're not going to give up as it's not over yet," Dowie continued. "If we win all of our games, you never know what might happen.

"If we beat Arsenal then the pressure is on them. We've slipped up this season, so why can't they?

"But ideally we want to get second place for Europe so we'll try and do that."

Dowie has been on the fringes of the England squad over the past two seasons, and despite scoring twice in the FA Cup final and having over 20 league goals this season, she is not getting carried away with talk of a call-up to the national team.

"Who knows," she said. "I am just focusing on playing well for Everton and if I get an England call-up, then I'll do exactly the same when I go away with England.

"We'll see what happens. I've had quite a good individual performance but the main thing is Everton Ladies have won the FA Cup and whatever comes from that is a bonus."
